Русский: Иллюстрация из энциклопедического словаря Брокгауза и Ефрона (1890—1907). Кристаллы известкового шпата принадлежат ромбоэдрическому отделению гексагональной системы. Наиболее обыкновенными его формами являются: 4) Ромбоэдр с углами в 105°5′, называемый основным ромбоэдром (фиг. 4, P), хотя встречается редко, но эту форму весьма легко получить при разбивании всякого кристалла И. шпата. Двойниковое образование кристаллов весьма обыкновенно и происходит по многим законам, но чаще наблюдаются двойники по двум: 1) двойниковой плоскостью служит базопинакоид oR (двойники с параллельной системой осей); в этом случае плоскости ромбоэдров или скаленоэдров образуют попеременные входящие углы, лежащие в плоскости боковых осей (фиг. 5), иногда оба ромбоэдра, сросшиеся по данному закону, прорастают друг друга, образуя двойники прорастания, у которых на каждой плоскости одного ромбоэдра выступают трехгранные пирамидки, составляющие трехгранные углы другого ромбоэдра. 2) Дв. плоскостью является плоскость так называемого первого тупейшего отрицательного ромбоэдра — 1/2R (0112), а двойн. осью — нормала к ней; таким способом образуются двойники с наклонными системами осей (фиг. 6).
