Summary edit

Description

This waterfalls is in Old Man's Cave Gorge in the scenic Hocking Hills of southeastern Ohio. Broken Rock Falls descends along a steep, narrow cleft in Lower Mississippian Black Hand Sandstone. The cleft is probably developed along a prominent subvertical joint (fracture).

The Black Hand Sandstone was traditionally interpreted as an ancient delta deposit. Modern work has shown it is an incised valley fill complex.
