editDescriptionBuckhurst Hill, Former Congregational Church Tower - geograph.org.uk - 648890.jpg |
English: St James' Gate, Palmerston Road, Buckhurst Hill, Essex, seen from the southwest. This is a four-storey block of flats, built in the 1980s on the site of a former Congregational church. The church was designed by the architect Edmond Egan and built in 1873. The tower of the church was retained when the rest of the church was demolished. There is a photo in the Francis Frith collection of the church and tower in 1923: http://www.francisfrith.com/search/england/essex/buckhurst+hill/photos/buckhurst+hill_73931.htm |
