English: This image was acquired by the NOAA-NASA Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS infrared sensor at around 0900z on May 24, 2012. Convective cloud tops almost completely surrounding a small central eye are visible in this image. The infrared imagery measure cloud top temperatures. In this image, the coldest, highest cloud tops are colored dark orange. These areas of very high convection are associated with the strongest winds and rain. |
