Bahasa Indonesia: Dalam sejarah umat manusia, peradaban-peradaban besar biasanya tumbuh dan berkembang di sepanjang aliran sungai. Hal ini juga berlaku di Indonesia, khususnya di pulau-pulau yang dialiri sungai-sungai besar. Di Kalimantan Selatan, Sungai Kuin di Kota Banjarmasin menjadi ruang publik dengan segala aktivitasnya. Sementara itu, di Kalimantan Barat Sungai Kapuas yang membelah wilayah provinsi ini dari timur ke barat, dari jantung Pulau Borneo menuju laut di Selat Karimata, memiliki titik-titik peradaban dan salah satu titiknya adalah Kota Sintang. Kota Sintang dibelah dua sungai, yakni Sungai Kapuas dan Sungai Melawi. Sungai Melawi bermuara ke Sungai Kapuas dan tepat membelah kota ini sehingga Kota Sintang terbagi ke dalam tiga wilayah bentangan darat. Sungai Kapuas yang melintasi Kota Sintang mempunyai peranan penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat setempat. Melalui jalur-jalur sungai ini, terjadi ekspansi kekuasaan, kontak agama, kontak kebudayaan, serta kontak perdagangan. Sebagai pusat interaksi manusia, tepian sungai yang menjelma menjadi pusat pemerintahan tentu menghasilkan kebudayaan yang sangat dipengaruhi oleh eksistensi sungai dan hutan yang ada di sekitarnya. Di dalam kebudayaan tersebut, orang-orang yang berinteraksi melakukan aktivitas dengan karakter yang unik. Dan ini akan dijelaskan secara mendalam di buku yang berjudul Budaya Sungai Pada Masyarakat Kota Sintang, Provinsi Kalimantan Barat.
English: In human history, great civilizations usually grow and evolve along river flows. It also occurs in Indonesia, especially on islands that flowed of big rivers. In South Kalimantan, Kuin River in Banjarmasin city has become a public area with all the activities. Meanwhile, in West Kalimantan, the Kapuas River that divides this province area from east to west, from the heart of Borneo Island to the sea in Karimata Strait, has civilization trails and one of them is Sintang City. Sintang City is divided by two rivers, they are Kapuas River and Melawi River. Melawi River boils down to Kapuas River and exactly divides this city so that Sintang City is divided into three areas of land expanse. Kapuas River that crosses Sintang City has an essential role in local society’s life. Through these river routes, there was power expansion, religious contact, cultural contact, and trading contact. As the center of human interaction, the river bank, which became the center of government indeed produces a culture that is strongly influenced by the existence of rivers and forests in the vicinity. In that culture, people who interact carry out activities with unique characters. And this will be explained deeply in a book entitled Budaya Sungai Pada Masyarakat Kota Sintang, Kalimantan Barat.
