Summary edit

Description Buddha sits majestically atop a pedestal in the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Danang, Vietnam. All around the Buddha appear to be the pedestal or platform which his temple was probably built on. So while the temple itself might have been destroyed, somewhere within Cham territory, which in effect was most of Central Vietnam, the base of the temple was rescued. This was probably a Hindu temple initially. Some kings, while retaining the substantial shrine, simple replaced the Hindu gods in them with the Buddha, as happened in the Angkor Wat, and which has probably what has happened here as well. None of the sculptures were signposted, probably due to the ongoing renovation, so most of what I write here is my own guesswork. (Danang, Central Vietnam, Nov. 2016)
