Summary edit

Description
English: Seen at sunset on an October 2022 afternoon is the Buffalo Catering Company building at 321 Tacoma Avenue (corner Crestwood Avenue) in Buffalo, New York. Built in 1924 for real estate investor Frederick C. Fuhrman, this one-story brick commercial building exemplifies the then-popular "Stripped Classical" style with its flat roof, the simple cornice and band of decorative masonry work lining the top of its façade, and cut-stone swag reliefs serving as ersatz capitals atop the brick pilaster strips that separate the shop windows. However, the sleek lines, stylized forms, and curvilinear contours - particularly the rounded corner housing the entrance - presage the Art Deco and Moderne aesthetics that would come to prominence in ensuing decades. The building has always housed a mixture of multiple commercial tenants, among the first of which were Edward M. Green's Exeter Pharmacy and a branch location of the Harry J. Galle Meat Market; other prominent ones over the course of its history included Joseph Tripi's shoe repair shop and a location of A&P (both for most of the 1930s), James Poole's furniture repair and upholstery shop (late 1930s through mid-'40s), Tacoma Liquors (later C&C Liquors, late 1940s through late '50s), Miller's Dry Cleaners (1950s and most of the '60s), and others. The main tenant at the present time is the Buffalo Catering Company.
