English: Mag More is generally celebrated after an interval of five years. On a fixed day, the Santals , in order to fulfil the vow, offers a sacrifice of red she goat to Jaher Era, white goat to Marang Buru and mixed white and red goat to Moreko-Turiko. This God is propitiated to ward off unknown evils in the shape of drought, poor harvest, epidemics etc. In Kolkata the festival is held every year on the full moon day of Baisakh (April-May), in the district Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, Birbhum and Bankura it is celebrated during the month of Baisakh-Jaistha (May-June). It is celebrated in 3 days, first day is "Um Narka, Second day is "Sardi Maha" and Third day is "Baskey Maha". |
