Description
English: As seen in July 2020: to the casual observer, the rather unassuming two-story flat-roofed brick commercial buildings at 60 (left) and 64 (right) Niagara Street in downtown Buffalo may not seem at first like the work of prominent local architect John H. Coxhead. But look again and you'll see some of his typical calling cards here and there, specifically in the arrangement of the decorative voussoirs above the second-story windows (those above the segmental arches on #60 sport an unusual nail-head motif). The buildings were constructed circa 1887 and have housed a revolving door of commercial tenants through the years; a sampling from the early years would include the offices of engineer George Burnham, the law practice of John K. Brown, and Holden's Steam Laundry, which specialized in lace curtains. In the present day, Marotto's DuBois Restaurant has been operating out of #60 Niagara since the 1950s, while #64 is home to the law practice of Bender & Bender.
