For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. ADN-ZB Settnik 10.5.84 Berlin: Schönes Detail-Das einstige Hotel "Splendid" in der Clara-Zetkin-Straße macht seinem Namen noch heute alle Ehre. Die reich vorhandene plastische Ausschmückung an der Außenfassade entspricht dem lateinischen Wort "splendid", zu deutsch "kostbar", "glänzend". 1904 wurde das in der Denkmalliste des Stadtbezirks Mitte erfaßte Bauwerk im Stil des süddeutschen Barock mit Anklängen an den Jugendstil errichtet. (siehe auch 6-8N) Eine Gedenkplakette neben dem Eingangsportal erinnert an Wilhelm Pieck, der in diesem Haus als Vorsitzender der "Roten Hilfe Deutschlands" in den Jahren 1925 bis 1933 tätig war. Heutiger Hausherr ist die Bank für Landwirtschaft und Nahrungsgüterwirtschaft. |
