Die X. Kinder- und Jugendspartakiade der DDR wurde auf dem festlich geschmückten Bebelplatz im Zentrum der Hauptstadt eröffnet. Prominente und erfolgreiche Sportler früherer Jahre wie Thomas Munkelt, Bärbel Wöckel, Lothar Thoms, Bernd Drogan, (vorn v.r.n.l.) und Waldemar Cierpinski, Brigitte Wujak, Jürgen Wiefel, Jochen Bachfeld (hintere Reihe v.r.n.l.) trugen die Staatsflagge der DDR auf den tradtitionsreichen Platz.
