For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Rostock, Hafen, Frachter, Oberdeck Zentralbild Bez.Red.Rostock-Löwe 17.5.1957 Pu-Ku.- Jungfernfahrt des "Thälmann-Pionier". Mit 102 Pionieren an Bord trat der Frachter "Thälmann-Pionier" am 16. März 1957 seine eintägige Jungfernfahrt von Rostock aus in die westliche Ostsee. Der 3.000-Tonnen-Frachter "Thälmann-Pionier", der in die Handelsflotte des VEB Deutsche Seereederei aufgenommen wurde, ist ein verbesserter Typ der bewährten 3.000-Tonnen-Serie, die seit einigen Jahren auf der Schiffswerft Neptun gebaut wird. Für den Bau des Schiffes haben die Thälmann-Pioniere in allen Städten und Dörfern der DDR 1, 5 Millionen DM aufgebracht und beachtliche Mengen Schrott gesammelt.
