Zentralbild/Schmidt 16.1.58 "Trabant" ein Erzeugnis des VEB Automobilwerk AWZ Zwickau Der VEB Automobilwerk AWZ Zwickau lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit der Fachwelt mit der Neukonstruktion des Kleinstwagens "Trabant" auf sich. In bahnbrechender Pionierarbeit schufen Forscher, Ingenieure und Facharbeiter den neuen mit Stahlblechgerippe und Duroplaststoffverkleidung versehenen Personenkraftwagen. Hervorragende Eigenschaften wie niedriges spezifisches Gewicht, gute akustische Dämpfung und Isolierfähigkeit, absolute Korosionsbeständigkeit und hohe Elastizität lassen den Duroplaststoff zum Karosseriebaustoff der Zukunft werden. Dieser technische Fortschritt im Automobilbau der DDR weckt das Interesse der gesamten Fachwelt. Die jetzt anlaufende Nullserie ist eine Viersitzer-Limousine mit einem Zweitakt-, luftgekühlten Otto-Motor mit 18 PS bei 3.750 U/Min., Viergangschaltung, Einscheiben-Trockenkupplung und selbsttragender Karosserie. Der Kraftstoffverbrauch beträgt bei 100 km 6 Liter mit legierten Hyze-Zweitakt-Motoröl.
