For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Halle/Saale, I. Arbeiterfestspiele, Großkundgebung Zentralbild Schmidt 20.6.1959 Großkundgebung in Halle. Unter der Losung "Der neue Verständigungsvorschlag der UdSSR und der DDR in Genf - eine grosse Chance für Deutschland" fanden sich am Nachmittag des 19.6.1959 weit mehr als 100.000 Werktätige von Halle zu einer Großkundgebung auf dem Obermarkt zusammen, an der auch zahlreiche westdeutsche Werktätige, die Gäste der ersten Arbeiterfestspiele sind, teilnehmen. (s. ADN-Meldung vom 19.6.1959) UBz: Der Vorsitzende des FDGB-Bezirksvorstandes, Helmut Kriegel, spricht zu der Hallenser Bevölkerung.
