For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.

UP-geschweißte Schiffskörper.
Im UP-Schweißer-Wettbewerb der Groß- und Binnenwerften der DDR wurde im ersten Quartal 1959 die Schiffswerft "Edgar André" in Magdeburg Sieger. Die Röntgenprüfung der Unterpulver-Schweißungen der Werft ergab eine Durchschnittsnote von 1.51, was als außerordentlicher Erfolg zu werten ist. Seit dem Bau eines Schweißportals in der Werft ist es möglich, das Unterpulver-Schweißverfahren beim Bau der Schiffe in großem Maßstab anzuwenden. So werden jetzt bei den für den Export bestimmten 700-Tonnen-Motorgüterschiffen 80% aller Stumpfnähte des Mittelschiffs unter Pulver geschweißt.

UBz.: Die Schweißung ist beendet, Schweißer Walter Jordan (links hockend), Schweiß-Technologe Schönnagel (vorn rechts) und Schmied Rudi Röder prüfen die Naht. Bis 7 Meter lang können die Schweißnähte sein."
