For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Rostock, Überseehafen, Binnenschiffe Zentralbild Karnitzki tre.-Ri. 2.9.1964 15 Jahre DDR mit dem feierlichen Flaggenwechsel an Bord der "Rudolf Breitscheid" wurde auf der Rostocker Warnowwerft ein weiterer 10 600-Tonnen-Frachter als 106. Schiff der Deutschen Seereiderei in den Dienst gestellt. Dieses moderne Motorschiff ist 142 m lang und mit einer 5 850-PS-Maschinenanlage ausgestattet, die dem Schiff eine mittlere Reisegeschwindigkeit von 13, 75 Knoten verleiht. Um weit mehr als das 31fache ist die Jahresproduktion der grössten DDR-Hochseewerft seit 1947 angewachsen. Dieser Schiffbaubetrieb, der moderne Hochseefrachter serienmässig nach fortschrittlichsten und technischen Gesichtspunkten baut, ist dach dem 2. Weltkrieg völlig neu entstanden. 1945 wurde hier mit 28 ungelernten Arbeitern begonnen. Heute zählt der Betrieb rund 7.000 Beschäftigte, darunter 450 Ingenieure und Diplomingenieure.
