For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Magdeburg, Karl-Marx-Straße, Fußgängerzone Zentralbild Ritter Bre-FSo DDR: Zu einer Hauptstraße ohne Autoverkehr wurde der Nordabschnitt der Karl-Marx-Straße in Magdeburg (unser Bild). Der Autoverkehr wurde aus der Straße herausgenommen, um den Bürgern einen ruhigen und ungefährdeten Einkauf zu ermöglichen. Nur der Straßenverkehr führt noch durch die Strasse. In der Nähe gelegenen Hauptstraßen und Parkplätze ermöglichen auch den Kraftfahrern, die Geschäfte nach kruzen Fussweg zu erreichen. Der Nordabschnitt der Karl-MArx-Straße hat durch breite Fussgängerwege, Grünanlagen und später durch kleine Springbrunnen den Charakter eines Boulevards.
