For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Magdeburg, Neue Elbebrücke, Ausflugsschiff Zentralbild Ritter 8.10.1965 Magdeburger Strombrücke am 6.10.1965 übergeben. Tausende Magdeburger erlebten am Vorabend des 16. Jahrestages der DDR die Einweihung ihrer neuen Elbebrücke. Die 1800 Tonnen schwere Brücke ist 260 Meter lang und überspannt an dieser Stelle 120 m breiten Strom mit 130 m Stützweite pfeilerlos. Die Fahrbahnbreite für Kraftfahrzeuge und Straßenbahnen beträgt 18 m. Im nächsten Jahr wird die alte, nach dem Krieg behelfsmäßig wiederhergestellte Brücke, abgebaut.
