Berlin, Staatsbibliothek, Musiklesesaal Zentralbild Deutsche Demokratische Republik Beethovenehrung 1970 Wertvolle Autographen in der Deutschen Staatsbibliothek Berlin Die Deutsche Staatsbibliothek Berlin besitzt einen großen Teil des Nachlasses Ludwig van Beethovens, viele Urschriften, Handschriften, Briefe und Erstausgaben. Zu den wertvollsten Dokumenten gehören die Urschrift der 9. Sinfonie (Foto) sowie die Konversationshefte Beethovens. Der Komponist konnte sich infolge seines Gehörleidens während der letzten 10 Jahre seines Lebens nur noch schriftlich mit seiner Umwelt verständigen. Er benutzte vorwiegend Notizbücher, die sogenannten Konversationshefte. Bei seinem Tode waren etwa 400 Hefte vorhanden. Heute existieren noch 139. Davon befinden sich 137 in der Deutschen Staatsbibliothek und werden aus Anlaß des Beethovenjahres in einer elfbändigen kritischen Ausgabe herausgegeben. Da viele von ihnen bisher unausgewertet sind, werden sie neue Erkenntnisse über den Menschen und Musiker Beethoven vermitteln. Sie sind gleichzeitig ein ergreifendes Dokument menschlicher Tragik.
