For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Zentralbild Franke 9.12.70 Berlin: Nierentransplantationszentrum- Auf sein einjähriges erfolgreiches Bestehen blickt das Nierentransplantationszentrum im Berliner Krankenhaus Friedrichshain am "Tag des Gesundheitswesens" (11.12.) 1970 zurück. 26 Transplantationen führte das Ärztekollektiv unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Mebel bis zum 21.11.1970 aus. Das Zentrum, eine der modernsten klinischen Einrichtungen der DDR, genießt bereits internationales Ansehen. In der Dialyseabteilung des Zentrums (unser Foto) werden Patienten mit chronischer Funktionsunfähigkeit der Nieren behandelt bzw. auf eine Transplantation vorbereitet. Schwester Ursula (Mitte) kontrolliert einen Patienten, der an die künstliche Niere angeschlossen ist. Die Kranken, die dreimal wöchentlich für mehrere Stunden behandelt werden müssen, können die Klinik in den Zwischenzeiten verlassen und z.T. einer Arbeit nachgehen.
