English: Burley, milestone Very dirty & uncared-for milestone, one of a series from Ringwood to Wilverley. The legend reads "To/Ringwood/5/Christchurch/8/Lymington/9/Miles/Tho Eyre/H. Bromfield/Surveyors /1802". Thomas Eyre was steward at nearby Burley Manor; he founded a charity that distributed clothes from the nearby Bread Stone, and built the village's first chapel. |
