Description
English: Burley Street, guide stone. High up on traffic island at top of Burley Street & almost surrounded by gorse, this guide stone is one of two erected by Thomas Eyre, steward of Burley Manor & local philanthropist (see 1116422 for the other). The legend states "To/Crow//To/Ringwood/Reft/and be/thankful//PEACE/Reftored/27th March 1802"; the peace referred to was Peace of Amiens, which only lasted one year.
