Burt Hall was built by the Northumberland Miners’ Association in 1895 to honour Thomas Burt MP, who had served as the Association’s General Secretary for 27 years and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade in 1892. It was designed by John Dyson, and completed in 1892
