Business district, Oakesdale, Washington, 1890-1899
Description
This framed collection of five photos depicts the downtown business district of Oakesdale, Washington. Clockwise starting at the upper left is the Commercial State Bank (built 1891) on the corner of First Street and Steptoe Avenue. George Comegys was the first bank president. The photo in the upper right is of Steptoe Avenue looking east. On the left side of the street is the Billard Hall where the library currently resides (2010) and across First Street on left is the Commercial Bank. At the end of the block on the left is the Oakesdale Hotel. The third photo (center left) is another photo of Steptoe Avenue looking east. The fourth photo on the bottom is of First Street looking south (circa 1900). The businesses along this street included a hotel, a drug store, the Post Office, a cafe, a dry goods store, a grocery store and a bank. The school is on the hill in the background. The last photo (lower right) was taken looking west on the corner of First and Bartlett Streets (1890).
