English: Butler Street car park, Preston To the left and centre is Preston railway station and to the right the modern Fishergate shopping centre. The car park serves both establishments but was previously a major goods yard. Preston station was in two parts, the long London to Scotland main-line part represented by the highest line of overall roofs and an East Lancashire portion, which dealt with trains from the Blackburn direction, partly represented by the open-ended trainshed nearest the camera. The East Lancs line curved sharply round through the car park and passed under the bridge from which the photograph is taken. Poking up above the station roof are the chimneys of Lancashire County Hall and, more faintly, the spire of St Walburge's Church.
