English: Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Conference (www.chain-in.org)
Abstract: Bitcoin, and the underlying Blockchain technology, have been hailed as the next generation of financial networks. However, blockchains do not scale to rates that would allow them to replace established networks, and even less the micropayment economy some people have envisioned. We present the Lightning network, a Layer 2 network, that is built on top of Bitcoin. Lightning enables some novel use-cases, e.g., micropayments, better privacy, and real-time transfers, while at the same time reducing the load on the Bitcoin network itself. |
