This means that a same skate can be kept even as the foot grows as the person using the skate gets older. For this, the wheels and X-frame are kept, and a different metal sole+rubber/plastic sole is attached (by screwing another one on). The metal+rubber/plastic sole that has become too small can be brought back to the shop and reintroduced to the market circuit. Note that plastic would only be a viable alternative for the top sole if it has been recycled; no new plastic should be made to produce the sole.
