Notes Niedrige Löhne, arbeitsloses ländliches Proletariat, Mangel an Arbeiter-Organisation, u. eine rückständige soziale Gesetzgebung - das ist es, was die Südstaaten heute der Jndustrie zu bieten haben. Jn den letzten Jahren wird viel Kapital aus dem Norden in den Südstaaten investiert, die Fabrikschlote schiessen wie Pilze aus dem Boden: Hier, an einem Fluss im Staate Tennessee, ist eine neue Strumpfweberei (Hosiery) gebaut worden. Die Arbeiterinnen kommen aus den Cumberland-Bergen, Töchter blutarmer Farmer, für die ein Wochenlohn von 5-8 Dollar einen Haufen Geld bedeutet!
