Nederlands: Foto. Toen in 1916 de BGD besloot veel meer aandacht te gaan besteden aan de preventieve gezondheidszorg werd medisch-hygiënische propaganda daarbij een vast onderdeel. Er kwamen wandplaten en zelfs films die men in de dorpen ging vertonen. Vanaf 1924 wordt deze propaganda geïntensiveerd, te beginnen met de mijnworm-campagne. Verder maakte men propaganda voor latrines en klamboes (muskietennetten), het koken van drinkwater, de zorg voor zwangeren en zuigelingen en, op de scholen, voor hygiëne in het algemeen. Voor dit alles werden zogeheten hygiëne-mantris of mantri-propagandisten opgeleid, waarvan er in 1936 156 in dienst waren bij de Dienst der Volks Gezondheid. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
