Nederlands: Negatief. De Indische Archipel herbergde één van de mensapen, de orang oetan. Dit dier kwam (en komt alleen) op Borneo en Sumatra voor. Letterlijk betekent orang (h)utan bosmens, wat overigens niet een lokale naam voor het dier is. Rond 1935 kwam de aap nog op veel plaatsen op Borneo voor, met name in het dichte oerwoud van de lage streken, zowel in de moerassen als in de droge gebieden. De dichtheid van de dieren echter was gering. Sinds de ordonnantie van 1931 viel de orang oetan onder de totaal beschermde diersoorten. Hij werd door de Dajaks wel bejaagd (met de blaaspijp) om zijn vlees en om de jongen. Die werden clandestien verkocht. Europeanen en Dajaks hielden ze als huisdier. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
