English: The effects of lahars (mudflow) that occurred during the 1919 eruption of Mount Kelud.
Following the Kelud eruption of 1901, another eruption occurred on May 20, 1919. Over 5,000 people were killed, and more than 9,000 homes destroyed. Over 1,500 cattle died. The photo shows the effects of a destructive lahars. Vegetation recovers relatively quickly from the effects of a lahar, which means that the displaced people often go back to the old location. This could go well for decades, but the likelihood that such an event will occur again is always present. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
Nederlands: Negatief.
