Nederlands: Tijdens het dodenritueel van de Samo dansen de vrouwen om de symbolische voorstelling van de overledene begeleid door muzikanten die de spantrom bespelen. De voorstelling van de overledene bestaat uit een groot aantal gebruiksvoorwerpen van deze persoon. Onder andere de slaapmat, doeken, een hak, draagstel en een mand zijn duidelijk herkenbaar. Hieruit valt af te leiden dat de overledene een vrouw is.
De opname is gemaakt tijdens één van de twee verzamelexpedities die het Tropenmuseum in 1970-1971 ondernam ter voorbereiding op de grote tentoonstelling in 1971-1972, getiteld 'Samo. Een Afrikaans Savannevolk in ontwikkeling'. De expedities duurden elk drie maanden en werden uitgevoerd door de heren J.T. Broekhuijse en F.M. Cowan. Een foto van dit ritueel staat ook afgebeeld in de catalogus bij de hierboven genoemde tentoonstelling met het bijschrift 'Tijdens het dodenritueel dansen vrouwen om de symbolische voorstelling der overledene' (1971: 13). |
