Nederlands: Negatief. In 1840 had het gouvernement voor het eerst een garnizoen op het eiland Nias gelegd, en wel bij de havenplaats Goenoeng Sitoli, Noordoost-Nias. Daarna werden er nog diverse expedities uitgerust naar Nias voor het eiland in 1857 nominaal geheel onder het gezag van het koloniale bestuur kwam. Toch was er in 1863 nog een expeditie nodig. Daarna probeerden zending en gouvernement een eind te maken aan het koppensnellen en het roven van mensen om hen als slaven te verkopen. Op de foto zijn onder de hoofden de krijgers duidelijk herkenbaar aan hun opvallende hoofdtooi (een helm met een soort gewei), hun leren jasjes, speren en schilden. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
