Nederlands: Harpluit met 21 snaren, die links en rechts langs inkepingen in de kam naar de brug lopen. Twee stokken die naast de hals door de kalebas zijn gestoken dienen om de luit met beide handen vast te houden en met de duimen en wijsvingers te tokkelen. Een halve kalebas bespannen met vel dient als klankkast; in de kalebas is een vierkant klankgat uitgesneden. De snaren zijn gedeeltelijk van kattendarm en gedeeltelijk van nylon, en worden door middel van gevlochten leren bandjes om de hals gestemd. Omdat de hals door het klanklichaam heengaat en er aan de andere kant weer uitkomt, is dit een zg. 'spiesluit'. De snaren lopen over de kam naar een ijzeren ring.
(Hoewel dit instrument meestal als 'harp-luit' wordt geclassificeerd, is het eigenlijk een luit met een wat hoog uitgevallen kam.) Een seron is een harpluit van de Maninka (Guinee) met 15-20 snaren, gelijkend op de kora (Groves, 1984: 347) |
