Nederlands: Enkelbanden in deze vorm werden gebruikt voor slaven. Vroeger werd de slaven het weglopen van de verkoopplaatsen belet door ze met met deze dubbele enkelbanden te boeien. Deze banden werden aan de lopende band door de slaven zelf vervaardigd. Het is echter niet zeker of deze exemplaren versierd waren, waarschijnlijk waren ze eenvoudiger uitgevoerd.
Vermoedelijk behoort dit object tot de type enkelbanden die gebruikt werden door een ritueel genezer, een specialist in het behandelen van krankzinnigheid, epilepsie en lepra. Deze zieken werden met succes behandeld door ze gedurende enige tijd te isoleren in afgesloten ruimten en ze gevangen te houden met behulp van dit soort enkelbanden. De uitgebeelde vogels zijn vermoedelijk hoornraven. |
