Nederlands: Negatief. Toen rond 1500 de Portugezen Sumatra aandeden was Pasé (of Pasai) al een islamitische stadstaat. De islam was in die buurt echter al veel eerder gearriveerd, want er is een grafsteen gevonden van de eerste islamitische vorst van Samudra, daterend uit het jaar 1297. Vlak daarvoor had de beroemde Italiaanse reiziger Marco Polo Noord-Sumatra bezocht en ook hij had de aanwezigheid van de islam gemeld. Pasé speelt ook een rol bij de discussie over de vraag waar de Indonesische islam vandaan kwam. Op grond van een aantal islamitische graven te Pasé, afkomstig uit Gujarat in Noordwest-India, is die plaats wel als kandidaat genoemd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
