| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Na de kredietcrisis van 1863 nam de vraag naar kapitaal voor particuliere cultuurmaatschappijen toe. Een van de toen opgerichte 'cultuurbanken' was de Nederlandsch-Indische Handelsbank (NIHB, ook wel kortweg de Handelsbank). Deze kwam zelf in de problemen ten tijde van de wereldwijde zogeheten Agrarische Crisis die ook aan Indië niet voorbijging en zelfs dieper werd door het optreden van ziektes in koffie en suiker. Met behulp van het Nederlandse bankwezen werd de Indische banksector toen (ca. 1885) gesaneerd, waarbij de agrarische belangen van de Handelsbank werden overgedragen aan een nieuwe cultuurbank, De Nederlandsch-Indische Landbouw Maatschappij.
