English: Mangrove vegetation on the beach near Pasuruan
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Ooit was een groot deel van Java's noordkust omzoomd door mangrovebossen. Deze bossen zijn de kraamkamers voor vissen, garnalen en andere maritieme organismen. Ze zijn dan ook van het grootste belang voor de kustvisserij die in dorpen en steden langs Java's noordkust altijd een belangrijke rol gespeeld heeft. De laatste decennia verdwijnen de mangrovebossen langs de noordkust echter in hoog tempo. Overbevissing dreigt aldus niet alleen aan de vraagkant (meer vissers) maar ook aan de aanbodkant (minder jonge vissen). (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
