Nederlands: Negatief. Batavia was niet alleen het hoofdkwartier van de VOC, het was ook een 'Nederlandse stad' in de tropen. Het had dus tevens voorzieningen die bij zo'n stad hoorden, waaronder een stadhuis, gebouwd tussen 1707 en 1710. Nu huist er het historisch museum van Jakarta. In dit stadhuis zetelden het College van Schepenen en de Wees- en Boedelkamer, twee voorzieningen die ook aanwezig waren in menige Hollandse stad ten tijde van de Republiek. De Weeskamer beheerde een fors vermogen, dat werd uitgeleend aan de VOC tegen de gangbare rente, zodat de (Indo-)Europese wezen uit Indië, vaak verblijvend in Nederland, niet hoefden te bedelen. (P.
