Nederlands: Negatief. De Residentie Tapanoeli, grotendeels bewoond door Bataks die sedert de Padri Oorlog (1821-1838) moslims waren, was een economisch niet sterk ontwikkelde regio. In 1908 werd de Residentie opengesteld voor Cultuur Maatschappijen. Daarna ontwikkelde vooral de rubber zich redelijk, met name rond de enige 'stad' die iets voorstelde, de havenplaats Sibolga. Toen in 1929 de mondiale crisis uitbrak, was er rond Sibolga heel wat grond in erfpacht afgestaan voor de rubbercultuur. Daarnaast werden er nog koffie en kopra uitgevoerd. Op de foto het gemeenschappelijk pakhuis van de Cultuur Maatschappijen van Tapanoeli, waarheen en waarvandaan het transport per smalspoor plaatsvond. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
