English: Ways of transport of the delivery services of the Dutch Indies Railway Company before the headoffice in Semarang, Central-Java
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Paardentractie werd vervangen door motortractie, maar opeenvolgende technologieën kunnen lange tijd naast elkaar voortbestaan. De foto laat een vroege gemotoriseerde bestelwagen van de Nederlands-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij zien naast een door paarden getrokken bestelwagen. Uiteindelijk zou de verbrandingsmotor, net als elders in de wereld, het paardenbestand aanzienlijk doen slinken. In een land als Indonesië hebben de hoge prijzen voor ingevoerde vrachtwagens in combinatie met het geringe inkomen per hoofd dit proces wel sterk vertraagd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
