Description
English: The FRV Derwent Hunter was purchased in 1950 for £12,000. Rigged as a schooner, it measured 72ft, and had a 72HP diesel engine and distinctive red sails. The vessel was used in a range of projects including shark tagging and droplining for deep sea trevally from 1950-55. Between 1956-59, it was engaged in oceanographic studies in the Coral Sea, and hydrography and plankton studies in the Tasman Sea. It was used for tuna longlining off NSW, Victoria and Tasmania and sold in 1962.
