English: Dr Regg Benito undertakes adjustments on the Solar Thermal Dish at the Lucas Heights Facility. Mirrors in the solar dish concentrate the sun's energy providing the power for the reactor. In the reactor, steam and methane (natural gas) react to produce a high value, synthetic gas that contains 26% embodied solar energy. This gas, containing hydrogen, can be used for generating electricity in gas turbines and fuel cells, or providing thermal energy. |
