The kitchen and laundry area of the house, places where the wife of the keeper did much of her work. Making preserves, cooking, baking and cleaning all the clothes, bedding etc. by hand. Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park includes the lighthouse itself together with several outbuildings. The remaining lighthouse station is "one of the most complete light stations in the United States". Sign in the window said, "Historic Buildings, 1909" which I believe refers to the whole complex as that is when the lighthouse became operational. This was the assistant lightkeeper's home from the 1930s and was open to the public on the honour system, no security people was around. This house has been restored to the original U.S. Lighthouse Service architectural plans and specifications. Through the craftsmanship and dedication of the Restoration Team, 97% of the structure's historical material was retained. |
