DescriptionCalstock viaduct and the road to Ferry Farm - geograph.org.uk - 196259.jpg |
English: Calstock viaduct and the road to Ferry Farm. Seen from Higher Kelly, Calstock. The railway runs through a deep cutting at the Devon end of the viaduct, marked by the line of trees. The farm lane crosses it and another lane leads out of shot to the right down to North Ward Farm.
The viaduct is constructed of ferro-concrete blocks and was constructed between 1904 and 1907. Each of the twelve arches is 60 feet wide. The underside of the arches are 108ft from ground level and the concrete foundations are sunk as deep as 47ft in places, into sandstone. See also 196234. |
