| Description |
The prettiness of Boeng Kak Lake does not betray the seediness and overall run-down nature of the Lakeside area in Phnom Penh. A typical backpacker zone, but I felt it lacked the charm of other ones I've been to while retaining too much of the sktechy locals offering drugs, bad tour deals, mediocre food and anything else one might want. We were also very, and fairly concerned our hotel was going to collapse into the lake while we slept. Our 2nd story room came complete with weak plywood floorboards, holes open to the floor below and a balcony very certainly off limits to human weight. But it was pretty cheap and we lived to tell the tail. |
