| Description |
English: CN Steam Locomotive 6015 (U-1-a) was retired in 1960. It has been on public display in Jasper, Alberta, since July 1972.
It was a CN U-1-a class locomotive, which was similar to the U-1-b class. These were subclasses of thirty-seven 4-8-2 Mountain-type steam locomotives built for the Canadian National Railways between 1923 and 1924. They were retired between 1951 and 1962. 'The Whyte Notation' is a classification method for steam locomotives by wheel arrangement. It was devised by Frederick Whyte, and came into use in the early twentieth century. The notation in its basic form counts the number of 'leading' wheels, then the number of 'driving' wheels, and finally the number of 'trailing' wheels, with the numbers being separated by dashes. The CN Steam Locomotive 6015 with two leading axles (four wheels) in front, then four driving axles (eight wheels) and then one trailing axle (two wheels) is classified as a 4-8-2 locomotive, and is commonly known as a 'Mountain type'. |
