English: Canadian War Graves, Seaford Cemetery, East Sussex Joseph Shepley was a Structural Engineer from northern Ontario. He joined the Canadian Army as a commissioned Lieutenant on 27th March 1917 the day after he was initiated as a master freemason. He was married on 19th June 1918 and two weeks later was posted to the Canadian Engineers Training Centre, North Camp Seaford, East Sussex. On 22nd October 1918 he caught a cold which developed into pneumonia and he died in Eastbourne Hospital four days later. He was buried in this grave at Seaford with full military honours. Graves of other Canadian soldiers can be seen in the background. |
