Français : Canal Riquet entre Saint Hippolyte et l'étang Salses-Leucate, Pyrénées-Orientales (66), vue vers le sud.
Un canal signé Paul Riquet et initié par Vauban en 1686 relie le village de Saint-Hippolyte à l’étang de Salses au lieu-dit Fount del Port. L'objectif initial était de prolonger le canal de la Robine à Port-la-Nouvelle jusqu'à Perpignan, via les étangs de La Palme et de Salses-Leucate. Un projet qui avait pour but d’apporter dans le Roussillon des troupes, des armes et des matériaux en cas de danger venant du trône espagnol. Le canal a été creusé depuis l'étang jusqu'au village, mais ensuite abandonné en raison des coûts prohibitifs. |
