Canal de l'Ourcq
Description
The construction of the Canal de l'Ourcq was completed in 1821. While its originating source, the Ourcq, is located outside of Paris, the canal was designed to carry water into the capital and to provide an ample water supply to the Parisian population. However, it eventually proved to be insufficient, and Haussmann insisted that water be drawn from other sources. He then had the city of Paris install two hydraulic pumps at Trilbardou and Villers-les-Rigault. Between 1920 and 1930, the canal was once again completely renovated, and today continues to carry water into the 19th arrondissement.
